Under 18s rue missed chances in game of two halves
Sway U18s 0 Ringwood Town U18s 4
HCYFL Division 2
21st February 2016
After a ten week enforced lay off, due to many postponements, Sway finally took to the pitch in what turned out to be a classic game of two halves.
Sway started well with Simpkins in the thick of the action with a shot and then feeding Thompson through on goal, but both efforts failed to trouble the keeper. Ringwood forced a goal line clearance by Bateman, before Simpkins weaved his way through the visitors' defence making the keeper pull off a great save. Sway should have taken the lead when Drodges’ defence-splitting ball found Thompson who's shot squirmed wide. Then successive corners gave opportunities for Bateman and Brians who both headed over. Sway's keeper Heitt was called into action on several occasions but looked comfortable, especially at punching the ball away when under tremendous pressure. Just before half-time the visitors hit the bar from a cross, and were sorry to see defender Shorey making a last ditch header to prevent them scoring.
The second half was a different story as Ringwood took control. They went ahead after a defensive mistake saw a forward free on goal and then added a second from distance when the winger tried his luck after seeing Heitt off of his line. Sway tried to rally and came close when Matthews superb first-time ball released Francom but the keeper was on hand to deny this attack. Shortly afterwards, the Reds came close when Bale's cross hit the bar and Simpkin's shot was smothered out with a goal-line save. With the wind behind them, Ringwood were able to seal the win with two more goals.
Sway: Callum Heitt, Sam Brian, Tom Shorey, James Langdown, Max Bale, Ben Bateman, Asa Drodge, Will Matthews, Jasper Philips, Josh Thompson, Brad Simpkins.
Subs: Sam Chown, Jack Francom, Charlie Weekes, Dylan Parsons, Josh Goldsmith
