Reserves Stride past Bisterne
Sway Reserves 6 - Bisterne United 0
Bournemouth Hayward League Division 1
6th February 2016
Following last week's well-earned point, the Reserves looked to continue their recent fine form against relegation rivals Bisterne United. Sway started well with both Matt Hillyar and Ben Haffenden testing the keeper early on and Stride was guilty of missing several goalscoring opportunities. At the other end, James Pritchard and Lee Gilbert struck up a forceful partnership in the heart of defence.
With Tom Ritchie off injured, Jon Waller took over taking corners and made an immediate effect when Stride opened the scoring with a header on 38 minutes. The Reds continued their pressing game which paid dividends when Stride scored his second. With the first half drawing to an end, Haffenden unleashed a fierce shot that the keeper only managed to parry towards the industrious Hillyar who scored from the rebound.
It only took five minutes into the second half for Sway to extend their lead when Crouch found Haffenden who released Hillyar to score his second from 25 yards. A composed ball from Pritchard found Hillyar, who expertly slotted the ball onto the onrushing Waller whose shot went agonisingly wide.
Bisterne, to their credit, continued to press and Adam Gates was forced into a lunging block to deny a shot on goal. But the action soon returned to the other end when Stride used his strength and pace over 50 yards to hold off the last defender to stroke the ball into the bottom corner to complete his hat-trick .
The introduction of Steffen Hall and Ashley Russell in defence spurred Sway onto their sixth goal when the impressive Haffenden scored for the second successive game. Keeper Josh Borrowdale was rarely troubled but had to be on top form when he tipped over a dipping shot late on to keep a clean sheet.
Russells' surging run from left-back almost saw Sway score again but the attack was snuffed out in front of the goal. However, the final score reflected an emphatic win for the hard-working squad.
Sway: J.Borrowdale, A.Clark, J.Pritchard, L.Gilbert, J.Crouch, M.Hillyar, T.Ritchie, A.Gates, J.Waller, B.Haffenden, B.Stride.
Subs: D.Marks, S.Hall, A.Russell, S.Hillyer, P.Nineham
