Two evenly matched sides met to contest an entertaining game at Chapel Gate on a pitch that, despite the recent weather, was in near perfect condition.
In a tight first half, chances were few and far between, with both defences dominating. Sway's best efforts in the early stages came from corners with James Pritchard coming close on two occasions, firstly when his header scraped the bar then, following a good stop by the keeper, his scrambled effort was blocked on the line.
After 20 minutes, Sway had to reorganise as full-back Sam Quinn had to depart following a strong fifty-fifty challenge that later transpired to have caused a broken leg.
When either side did break through both keepers were in fine form. The home keeper tipped Ben Haffenden's shot around the post on 30 minutes whilst Josh Borrowdale in the Sway goal saved well in the final stages of the half to keep the score goalless at the break.
Within five minutes of the restart, however, Sports had taken the lead when a loss of concentration in the Sway back line left the forward with a free header from six yards out. Sway's response to this set back was excellent and minutes later the equaliser came as a Steve Hillyer through-ball sent Haffenden clear and he took a touch before volleying superbly into the roof of the net from the edge of the area.
Sway then took control of the game and completely dominated for 20 minutes with Haffenden now bursting with confidence and threatening at every opportunity. He came close with two long range shots, one crashed back off the post whilst a second was tipped onto the upright.
Haffenden then turned supplier as a left wing run and cross was met by Langdown and his great shot cannoned back off the bar as Sway hit the woodwork for the third time in a 15 minute spell. Adam Clark was next to threaten with a shot from distance that was well saved and he then combined well with Adam Gates whose effort was deflected wide.
As the half wore on, however, Sports slowly worked their way back into the game. Sway again had to reorganise defensively as the impressive Pritchard had to be replaced due to injury and this helped Sports gain back some momentum. In the final 15 minutes Sway had to work hard and defend well to keep their hosts at bay and had Borrowdale to thank for two fine saves to ensure a valuable and well-deserved point.
Sway Reserves: J Borrowdale, S Quinn, J Pritchard, S Hillyer, T Braime, J Waller, T Ritchie, A Gates, H Douik, B Haffenden, A Clark, subs: J Langdown, F Jenkins, A Lacey.
