Mahy grabs pair at Poppies
Bournemouth Hayward League Division 1
Bournemouth Poppies Reserves 0 Sway Reserves 4
12th December 2015
Sway Reserves travelled to a windy Victoria Park and came away with an impressive victory following an excellent overall team performance.
From the start Sway dominated and with the wind at their backs they were able to keep the Poppies defence under constant pressure.
Mahy squandered the first clear opportunity by shooting straight at the keeper when he broke through. However, it was not long before Sway took a deserved lead: Jenkins and Mahy combined well on the left and Jenkins found space to delver a deep cross that Haffenden fired low into the net.
The lead was doubled after 10 minutes when again Jenkins did well on the left to deliver a dangerous ball into the box. When the Poppies defence failed to clear, Stride took advantage to score past the helpless keeper.
Poppies responded well to halt the one-way traffic and on a rare attack of their own they were unlucky to see the final shot come back off the post.
Sway continued to press with Waller and Douik controlling the game in the centre of the midfield with a mix of impressive passing and surging runs. The lead increased on 20 minutes when a cross from Braime caused more mayhem in the Poppies box and Mahy stole in to fire past the keeper for his first goal of the season.
Sway took the 3 - 0 lead into the break and, wary of the conditions, came out determined not to give their hosts a chance to get back into the game.
Despite now playing into the strong wind Sway continued to work hard and controlled the game with their good passing football. Mahy scored his second and Sway's fourth when put clear by a fine Pritchard pass.
Sway's defence dealt with any threat from Poppies' attack. Pritchard and Cole were particularly impressive in the centre of defence and Quinn did superbly well to recover and clear off the line on the one occasion that Poppies were able to break through and round keeper Sque.
In the final minute, Sque brilliantly saved from a Poppies 25 yard free-kick to ensure that he and the team were able to enjoy their first clean sheet of the season.
