Reserves scrape past Queens Park
Sway Reserves 2 Queens Park Athletic 1
B'mouth Hayward Division 1
Saturday 18th March 2017
The Reserves went a goal down early on when we failed to clear a loose ball. But Dan Marks soon put us back on level terms when his curling shot from the edge of the box found the top corner. Marks was involved again when we took the lead: he surged into the box and looked to be set to score, but instead of shooting he chose find Jack Herbert on the left whose scuffed shot somehow alluded the keeper at his near post.
In the second half, the Reserves had to fight a rearguard battle as Queens Park came back strongly. Rob Old pulled off a great save and the woodwork came to our rescue on two occasions. The Reds also had their chances, with Marks and Tom Linbourne effective in midfield and Harry Boyt creating some good runs down the flanks. However, whatever openings were created seemed to end either in shots over the bar or in a simple save for the keeper.
The result means that the Reserves need a point from their final game to secure third place in Division One of the Bournemouth Hayward League.
Sway: Rob Old, Lee Borley, Harry Boyt, Chris Forbes, Lee Gilbet, Jack Herbert, Aaron Hurdle, Paul Jordan, Tom Linbourne, Dan Marks, Liam Miller. Substitutes: Lee Baxter, Jake Fields, Ryan Sheppard.
