Depleted Sway draw at Swifts
South Wonston Swifts 0 Sway 0
Hampshire Premier League Division 1
Saturday 4th March 2017
Sway had to settle for a point against a strong South Wonston team leaving a large dent in our hopes for the league title.
This was always going to be a difficult fixture for us having already suffered a defeat and a draw in previous fixtures against South Wonston this season. But our task was made even more difficult with five members of last week's squad unavailable and Ryan Brading having to start the game with tonsillitis. Dan Marks stepped up from the Reserves to play in central midfield alongside Ash Booker who took on the skippers role in Darren Ritchie's absence. These two worked tirelessly all afternoon and played a major role in helping Sway avoid defeat. We were also grateful to keeper Matt Langdown who made a couple of outstanding saves.
The best chance of the first half fell to Swifts when Will Lambert was robbed of the ball when attempting to dribble out of defence but fortunately the striker's effort hit the bar.
The second half continued to be scrappy with clear cut chances few and far between. Jake Bockhart appeared to have a great opportunity when he intercepted a poor back pass but unfortunately his touch let him down on this occasion. Ryan Brading battled on bravely, despite being under the weather, and created a couple of chances towards the end of the game but could not find the target.
The result leaves Sway top of the league with two to play but with Four Marks just four points behind with five to play.
Sway: Langdown, Churchill, Lambert, Petty, Scares, Marks, Booker(c), M.Brading, McQuoid, Bockhart, R.Brading. Subs. Lewis, O'Reilly, Hillyar.
