Brading hat-trick keeps Sway on top
Upham 0 Sway 4
Hampshire Premier League Division 1
Saturday 25th February 2017
With Upham only one point behind us but with a game in hand this really was a six-pointer.
Sway opened the scoring after only seven minutes when Booker's defence-splitting pass found Ryan Brading who calmly slotted past the on-rushing keeper. Upham then pressed hard and for the remainder of the half put the Sway defence under a fair amount of pressure. With Upham using three strikers, we had to defend ourselves from several one-on-one situations but managed to keep our goal intact with some stout defending and an excellent goalkeeping display from Langdown.
Following half-time tactical changes, the second half was a different matter. Sway pressed from the start and got their just reward on 55 minutes when Ryan found himself in space and scored with a superb header from a Scares corner kick. Bockhart replaced McQuoid mid-way through the half and made an instant impact. Within the space of ten minutes he saw his delicate chip hit the bar and had two fantastic efforts go narrowly over the bar. Steadman and Bond replaced Scares and Huggins and their fresh legs retained Sway's dominance. Ryan Brading, who led the line magnificently all afternoon, completed his hat-trick on 75 minutes when he picked up a clearance from Langdown and rounded the defender before smashing the ball into the roof of the net from an acute angle. Just before the final whistle, captain Ritchie scored a excellent solo goal to cap an all-round superb team performance.
Sway: Langdown, Churchill, Lambert, Brennan, Scares, Booker, Huggins, Ritchie, M. Brading, McQuoid, R.Brading. Subs: Bond, Bockhart, Steadman.
