Ritchie hat trick leads to impressive home win
Sway 5 Michelmersh & Timsbury 2
Hampshire Division 1
Saturday 19th November 2016
Sway defied the odds by playing some superb football in the first half on a rain soaked heavy pitch at Jubilee Field. Pressing from the start, Ash Booker was very lively making several probing runs, one of which led to him unleashing a cracking shot from 25 yards which the keeper did well to keep out. On 11 minutes, Sway were awarded a dubious penalty when the visitors' centre-back was somewhat harshly adjudged to have tripped Mark Brading in the box. Skipper, Darren Ritchie stepped up and made no mistake, calmly slotting the ball into the bottom left-hand corner. Ritchie made it 2-0 after 23 minutes, when his bullet header from Ryan O'Reilly's pin-point corner found the top corner. Sway continued to dominate and on 36 minutes the visitors' keeper's poor clearance fell kindly to skipper Ritchie who volleyed home from the edge of the box to complete his hat-trick. Michelmersh were always dangerous with their counter-attacking tactics but struggled to break through the Sway defence with Dan Brennan and Joe Petty once again in commanding form. Just before half-time, Sway added a fourth through a fine solo effort by Jordan Rogers.
Jake Bockhart and Ryan Brading replaced David Steadman and Rogers at half-time and soon afterwards Spencer Churchill came on for Booker. Sway struggled to find the same rhythm and lost some of their discipline with the game turning scrappy in the mud. Jordan Scares and Brennan were booked and O'Reilly was given his marching orders for two yellows. Midway through the second-half Michelmarsh scored twice and Matt Langdown in the Sway goal had to make a couple of fine saves. On 88 minutes, the impressive Petty burst through the visitors' defence and rounded the keeper to make it five and round up a fine win for Sway.
Sway Team: Langdown, Scares, Brennan, Petty, O'Reilly, M.Brading, Huggins, Booker, Ritchie (C), Steadman, Rogers, Subs: Churchill, R. Brading, Bockhart.
