Sway held by Swifts despite many chances
Sway 3 South Wonston Swifts 3
Hampshire Premier League Division 1
Saturday 12th November 2016
Sway were a goal down after just five minutes but fought back strongly with two goals from Jordan Rogers. His first was headed in at the far post, latching on to a fine cross from David Steadman. His second came shortly after: an excellent through-ball by Mark Brading found Rogers who confidently slotted the ball past the on-rushing keeper. Sway then had numerous opportunities to increase their lead but were thwarted by some fine goalkeeping and by the bar and post.
We went further ahead just after the break when Ryan O'Reilly curled a perfect 25-yard free-kick just inside the left-hand post. But Swifts battled back into the game and were awarded what looked like a soft penalty which they duly put away. Minutes later, Harry Greenwood could only parry a powerful shot into the path of the Swift's striker who fired home. Sway then dominated the last 20 minutes having three good penalty shouts turned down and saw chance after chance go begging. Darren Ritchie went on storming run, beating four players, nutmegging two of them before shooting narrowly wide. Ben McQuoid hit the bar and Mark Brading volleyed over from six yards out. This was another superb performance and the Sway lads can consider themselves extremely unlucky not to have won this match.
