Reserves Stride past Alderholt
Sway Reserves 5 Alderholt Reserves 1
Bournemouth Hayward Division 1
Saturday 5th November 2016
The Reserves got off to an excellent start and soon went ahead when Bill Stride latched on to a through ball, giving the keeper no chance. Sway went further ahead through Tom Atkinson and were then awarded a penalty; Jack Herbert squeezing it between the diving keeper and post. The visitors fought back but could not penetrate our well-organised defence.
Alderholt came out strongly in the second half and were rewarded with a well taken header from a free kick. But Sway continued to press and went further ahead with a far post header from a free kick, having already brought several good saves from the Alderholt keeper. Alderholt got the ball in the net, but the referee changed his initial decision when the linesman explained, what everyone else had seen, that Jason Hillyar had both hands on the ball before the Alderholt player knocked it off him. Dan Brennan scored Sway's fifth with a long range shot into the top right. With other teams distracted by cup games, the result has raised the Reserves into the top half of the league.
