Reserves make leaders work
Bournemouth Manor Reserves 4 Sway Reserves 0
Bournemouth Hayward Division 1
5th March 2016
Sway Reserves travelled to Kinson Manor with a vastly changed squad and went behind to the league leaders after 15 minutes. But the Reds rallied and began to trouble the home keeper with long-range shots from Pete Mahy and Jamie Chillcott.
Sway created further chances in the second half, especially through Aidan Lacey but the Manor's were too strong in the end, scoring three more goals and would have notched up more if not for Rob Old in the Sway goal.
Sway Reserves travelled to table-topping Bournemouth Manor on Saturday without a number of regulars following unavailability and call ups to the first team.
The unfamiliarity of the players showed in the early stages as Sway struggled to find any rhythm in their play. Manor took control of the early stages but the Sway defence held firm with Steve Hillyer and Paul Cole in the centre of defence coping well and nullifying the Manor threat. They were ably supported in midfield by Adam Gates and by Sway Under 18s manager Ben Howlett making his debut for Sway.
Manor finally broke the deadlock after 15 minutes when a through-ball split the defence for the forward who coolly rounded Rob Old in the Sway goal to slot home.
Old was then forced to make a fine save from a long-range effort to prevent Manor doubling their lead as the pressure continued..
Sway then started to get more into the game and looked more dangerous in attack. Aidan Lacey was able to flick on a long Old goal-kick that enabled Jamie Chillcott to break free of the Manor defence but the keeper did well to come off his line and block his effort. Pete Mahy and Fergus Jenkins then tested the keeper with long-range efforts as Sway finished the half on top.
The second half began well for the Reds with James Langdown, who was having a great game at left back, breaking forward and sending Lacey away on a dangerous run down the left-wing. Lacey cut inside and his fine shot from the edge of the box just cleared the bar.
Mahy was the next to go close for Sway: Jon Waller fed Chillcott who broke down the right-wing and his dangerous cross was controlled by Lacey who set up Mahy to shoot just wide.
Just as it seemed that Sway were getting on top they conceded again when a Manor forward was allowed to advance through several challenges to fire low into the net on 60 minutes.
This set-back deflated Sway and Manor were now able to take control of the game and scored their third five minutes later with another break through the Sway defence. Old then did well to make two sharp saves to prevent Manor increasing their lead further.
Sway nearly scored a consolation when the industrious Lacey: he first headed just over from a Chillcott corner and he then had a shot comfortably saved after substitute Luke Hirst had sent him clear with a fine pass.
However, it was Manor who completed the scoring on 85 minutes to seal a comfortable victory.
Sway Res: R Old. J Waller. P Cole. S Hillyer. J Langdown. F Jenkins. A Gates. B Howlett. J Chillcott. A Lacey. P Mahy. Subs: D Goth. L Hirst. J Frankcom.
