Thompson's goal earns point for U18s
Hampshire Youth League Division Two
Sway U18s 1 Petersfield Town U18s 1
20th December 2015
Sway continued their recent fine form with a good display on a difficult wet pitch.
Early pressure by Bale forced a corner, which Hinz headed but the keeper managed to tip the ball over. Bateman did well to block a shot after Petersfield's first corner. Then Hinz found space again from a corner but failed to trouble the keeper.
Drodge looked composed in controlling the midfield with his excellent touch and vision, backed up by the industrious Bateman and Simpkins. The visitors tried to break the deadlock but Eaton was in commanding form in goal, thwarting several attacks, then punching clear when under extreme pressure. On the stoke of half-time Hinz tangled with a Petersfield forward but was left on the ground as he broke clear to score the opener.
Sway made several changes at half-time, including the introduction of our new signing, goalkeeper Heitt, and looked a better side overall. Thompson latched onto a long ball from Shorey to thrust into the box, passing several defenders and netting the equaliser with his second attempt.
Pearce-Eavis slotted a sublime ball through to find Frankcom who surged forward but was out muscled when several defenders closed him down. The visitors continued to press and an impressive reverse-pass put the striker clear, but new-boy Heitt was on his toes to pounce upon the ball.
Philips was making a good impression on the left wing, looking a constant threat with several forceful runs tormenting the defenders. Both teams pushed for a winner but Shorey, Hinz, and the ever-impressive Langdown stood firm in Sway's defence. However, they were greatful to Bale when he headed off of Sway's goal-line in the last minute of the game. Credit goes to both sides who tried to play passing football throughout the match.
Sway:- Eaton, Weekes, Hinz, Langdown, Shorey, Drodge, Bateman, Bale, Simpkins, Chown, Baxendale.
Subs:- Heitt, Thompson, Frankcom, Pearce-Eavis, Philips.
