Stride's comeback goals all in vain

Sway Reserves 2 Burton 4
19th December 2015
Sway Reserves final game of the year came at home against top-of-the table Burton.
In a tight opening 20 minutes both sides battled hard and cancelled out any danger. Stride had Sway's only clear opportunity and fired wide while Borrowdale in the Sway goal dealt comfortably with several long range efforts from Burton.
Sway were pressing high in the field and, after half an hour, good work by Jenkins and Gates set up our best chance for Johnson who volleyed wide from the edge of the box.
Just as it appeared Sway were growing into the game they were undone by a swift Burton counter-attack after they pounced on a loose pass on the half-way line to surge forward down the left. The ball was then squared across the 18-yard line and Borrowdale was given no chance with a superb shot into the top right-hand corner of the net.
After half-time, Sway battled to get back into the game. Braime and Johnson combined to initially set up Hillyar but when his shot was blocked Jenkins fired over. Johnson then headed onto the bar following a cross from Clark and Hillyar fired wide when in a good position.
Sway were now in control of the game and deservedly equalised after 60 minutes when a Miller free kick into the area caused indecision in the Burton defence and Stride took full advantage to fire home.
Five minutes later, it got even better as Braime set up Stride again and, in the scramble as defenders tried to recover, he was able to force the ball home past the keeper.
It was now all one-way traffic and Sway continued to pile forward in an effort to seal the win. Johnson came closest to extending the lead with a fine shot after a good run and cross from Clark.
Burton were not yet finished, however, and showed why they are top the table by regrouping and forcing their way back into the game.
Borrowdale was forced into a great save from a long range free-kick, pushing the ball onto the bar. But then with just ten minutes remaining, Burton equalised when again Borrowdale saved well from a long range effort but this time the forward followed up to fire the rebound back into the net.
The blow of losing their lead completely deflated Sway and Burton took full advantage; first by punishing a poorly headed back-pass that never reached the keeper. Then, they rubbed salt into the wound by forcing a fourth goal when a left-wing cross was turned in at the far post. This completed a 4-2 victory that was very harsh on Sway who had matched their table topping visitors for the majority of the game.
