U18s knocked out in derby
Hampshire U18 Cup - Rd 2
New Milton Town U18's 3 - Sway U18's 1
Sunday 11th October
Sway started the game with a new formation, which paid dividends early on as they had a major share of the first ten minutes, forcing a number of corners.
New Milton then came into the game but Drodge and Bateman were in commanding form in the centre of midfield, with Philips looking dangerous everytime he had the ball. Drodge carved out a reverse pass after an intelligent penetrating run by Bateman whose square-ball eluded Chown at the far post. Thompson was next to release the industrious Chown who found Baxendale firing wide. New Milton pressure on the edge of Sway's 18 yard box saw them take the lead. Just before half time Sway were awarded a penalty after Hinz was felled in the area following a free kick. However, Drodge fired the ball straight at the keeper.
The second half started with Thompson feeding Chown a through-ball but his shot swerved wide after two defenders restricted his options. The home side extended their lead twice in succesive minutes after sloppy defending, much to the annoyance of the management. Falso was making an impression with his commanding performance up front, releasing Pearce-Eavis to unleash a speculative shot. Sway were awarded a second, generous penalty after Chown went down and Worrall calmly blasted the ball into the net to reduce the arrears. Falso's persistance drew a foul 20 yards outside New Milton's goal and Worrall's free-kick went agonisingly wide after hitting the post. Keeper Roberts made several crucial saves late in the game before Falso flicked the ball onto Worrall at the other end but his shot was wide of the mark.
Sway deserved more from this game after a much improved all-round display, especially the impressive Langdown.
Sway: H.Roberts, T.Shorey, J.Hinz, J.Langdown, L.Worrall, A.Drodge, B.Bateman, J.Baxendale, J.Philips, S.Chown, J.Thompson
Subs: T.Pearce-Eavis, V.Falso, C.Weekes, C.Asher, D.Parsons
